PTA

PTA (Parent Teacher Association)

The Parent Teacher Association at NICS ICS-Rio consists of an active group of parents and teachers working together in support of the school community. Throughout the year the PTA serves as a strong support group for the school programs and students. Additionally it is a perfect means for parents to get knowledge about the school and to meet and spend enjoyable time with other parents. We in the PTA therefore encourage all of NICS RIS-families to join the group and become involved.

PTA Mission and Values

PTA Mission: To organize fun events for the kids and staff and to raise money for school and students needs. Moreover to be active in community involvement (e.g. supporting charity organizations).

PTA Values: Together we can make a difference!

PTA events - What we do!

Throughout the school year PTA organizes several events. Below you can read about the main events and activities.

School supply kits: In the beginning of the school year we provided a convenience to the parents and students by making school-supply kits available for purchasing. Parents no longer have to worry about where to find all the supplies needed for class.

Snackshop:  Every second week PTA organizes a very popular snackshop where students and the school staff can buy baked food and healthy snack, which are donated by parents. The parents and or students of each grade have turns donating for the Snack Shop and for selling at the snackshop.

Family Fun Fest:  Each year in November PTA organizes a day full of fun activities and food for the whole family and their friends. All classes will be in charge of setting up a fun activity booth and at the end of the day there is a raffle with donated presents.

High school Christmas dance:  At Christmas time we facilitate a dance party for high school students where they can have fun while enjoying music, dance, snacks and drinks.

Easter Egg Hunt:  The last day before the Easter holiday we celebrate Easter with an easter egg hunt for the (pre-) elementary students. With over 1000 little plastic eggs hidden throughout the school yard, the kids have a delightful time trying to find as many eggs possible to fill their baskets. Finally all children will receive chocolate eggs.

Teachers´ Appreciation Luncheon: Annually the PTA hosts a special lunch for the hard working and well deserving teachers and staff in May. The goal is to create an atmosphere where the teachers and staff will feel special, pampered and of course appreciated for their tireless support.

PTA Financial Award: We present one Graduating Senior with a Financial Award to be used at the university or college of choice. To apply for this Award the student has to write an essay of 1,500 words (maximum) on their academic achievements, extra-curricular activities and community involvements, as well as on their desire to win and their intention to use this award.

Community Involvement: Our Community Involvement Committee is devoted to promote awareness and discussion within our school community about the needs of deprived local children and teenagers. Through this committee, the RIS-community will offer help to groups and individuals who are helping these children. Our school has been supportive to a couple of groups who helps these children. An example of Community Involvement is donations of food and clothing to Santa Clara (orphanage), donation of food to Instituto Central do Povo (provide a variety of services to children from the favelas), and purchasing of an industrial washing machine for Fenase (institution assisting children and teenagers, who are victims of domestic violence, drugs trafficking and sexual abuse).

Social Events: We organize coffee mornings to give parents the opportunity to meet while having delicious food and drinks.

Monthly meeting and volunteer possibilities

Every first Tuesday of each month we meet at the school, from 8-10 AM. Feel free to join us and be part of a great international group of motivated parents, teachers, and students. Volunteering with the PTA is a great way to make friends from around the world as well as also to help benefit your child’s school.
