FacilitiesLocationRIS is located in a suburb of Rio de Janeiro called Barra da Tijuca. Barra, for its gated, sprawling housing developments, is considered a safe and relaxed community, prized for its family-friendly atmosphere rather than its nightlife. The school can be found behind the Nova Ipanema condominiums, five minutes from the local beaches. Security is not as big an issue in Barra as in other regions of Rio. However, the school considers it a high priority and is working closely with the American consulate to ensure that there are continual improvements.FacilitiesThe school’s facilities are modern and comfortable, including two buildings—one for the secondary school and one for the elementary school. They include two computer labs, a full equipped art room, science lab and library, two soccer fields and plenty of room for growing children to run and play.
