HistoryIn the fall of 2000, the International Christian School of Rio de Janeiro began with 34 students and 5 teachers in response to a group of expatriate parents who sought affordable, quality English-language-based education in the Barra da Tijuca area. The Network of International Christian Schools established the school and within the next nine years, and a name change to Rio International School, the student population has grown to over 160 students from over 18 countries.
The school is located on a 15.5 hector nature reserve in the suburban, upper middle-class area of Rio de Janeiro and leases its facilities from the Union Church of Rio.
