Main Goals - Expected School-Wide Learning Results

Pedagogy

We have chosen a variety of pedagogies to best suit the teaching style of the instructor, the learning style of the student, the subject material at hand, and to keep students attentive throughout the day.

Moreover, research shows that a variety of methodologies rather than strict memorization increases a student’s ability to think critically in all areas including problem solving.

The following are only a few of the most important pedagogies that will be used regularly in your child’s classroom.

Inquiry Based Learning

Builds on student’s individual knowledge and interests, and emphasizes learning how to learn as they are allowed to think critically. This type of learning allows student to acquire the skill needed to research a topic using both traditional and contemporary media.

Cooperative Learning

A classroom technique in which students work on learning activities in small groups and receive rewards or recognition based on their group’s performance. Besides the reward structure, Cooperative Learning also impacts the task structure of the learning environment. Tasks are usually individually prescribed as opposed to giving one task for the whole group. Students within a group may or may not be allowed to help one another.

Metacognition

Gives the student an awareness of the mental processes that he/she utilizes while learning. It can be exercised simply by having students explain what steps they went through to solve a problem. Other examples of utilizing metacognition include having the student teach the concept to a partner or to the class, journaling, or engage in peer tutoring programs.

Technological Integration

Is integrated into the curriculum in order to support the curriculum. It should promote critical thinking, problem solving, and evaluative competence. Furthermore, it should provide opportunities whereby students can be taught discernment. The proper utilization of technology in the school has the potential for better equipping students to live an serve in our incrasingly interrelated world.

Integration

Of all subject areas which makes education applicable to the students own experiences and therefore meaningful.
