Established in 2000, Rio International School has grown from a home-based school to an international school representing the highest percentage of international diversity (staff and students) in Rio de Janeiro. RIS is proud to be the only international Christian school in Rio de Janeiro.

RIS has been a member of the Network of International Christian Schools (NICS) since 2000. NICS currently operates nineteen international Christian schools in major cities around the world. RIS is a private, non-profit school established primarily to serve the international community of Rio de Janeiro as well as Brazilian nationals. In the year 2006, RIS became accredited through Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).
RIS is a candidate school for accreditation through the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI).
